2024 Building Improvement Grants Awarded

(Opelousas, LA) –Twelve business and/or property owners in Opelousas have been awarded a total of $100K in funding through the Building Improvement Grant (BIG) for the 2024 funding cycle. The grant program, which offers dollar-for-dollar matching grant funds for building improvements, is funded by the Opelousas Downtown Development District with support from the City of Opelousas and Opelousas Main Street, Inc.
Launched in 2021, the BIG program is designed to assist property and business owners in rehabilitating and improving commercial buildings for the purpose of creating a positive visual impact, stimulating local investment, and preserving the city’s historic identity and cultural assets. A total of $591,705 was requested for projects for the first cycle of grants.
