News 15 Investigates: Rural Acadiana’s Digital Divide

Did you know that in Louisiana, 1.7 million people lack access to broadband internet connectivity? That's roughly one-third of the state's population. And many of them live in rural parts of Acadiana. News 15 Investigates examines the “digital divide.” Closing that gap has been a priority for government leaders for years. Currently, Louisiana has ranked at the bottom of US states when it comes to getting rural communities connected to high-speed broadband. The state has allocated over $1.3 billion from the bipartisan Infrastructure Bill for the largest program in Louisiana history to expand broadband statewide.
