City to Install New Security Cameras to Enhance Public Safety

The City of Opelousas will soon install new security cameras throughout the community to enhance public safety.

This project is funded through a partnership with the Opelousas Downtown Development District following a formal request from the Opelousas Police Department for increased surveillance within the downtown corridor.

The initiative builds on previous infrastructure improvements, including security cameras and LED lighting installed along key corridors and at the city’s entryway.

Lena Charles, representing the Opelousas Downtown Development District, noted that the board viewed the camera installation as an important and necessary safety measure for the community, supporting efforts to strengthen security and maintain a welcoming environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
