Right to Work State

Businesses considering locating in Louisiana can benefit from us being a Right-to-Work State. This means that employees have the right to keep a job without being a union member. Without aggressive unions, businesses have the ability to negotiate directly with employees and to reach agreements that can be mutually beneficial for corporate profits and the employees who make business growth possible.

It’s the Law

According to the Code of Louisiana, "It is hereby declared to be the public policy of Louisiana that all persons shall have and shall be protected in the exercise of the right, freely and without fear of penalty or reprisal, to form, join and assist labor organizations or to refrain from any such activities," (§23:981 through 987 code of Louisiana).

Unions in St. Landry

St. Landry Parish has very low levels of unionization and union election activity. Many of our local businesses appreciate that they can negotiate with their employees without having to go through a third-party, something that makes it easier to remain nimble and react to changing market conditions.
